The immediate environment can also be a source of inspiration, the human figures in Karin Bos’ work are usually acquaintances, friends or family, or it is herself. Sometimes she acts like a “tourist in her own city” to break out of her daily routine. She has temporarily set up exhibition spaces in Amsterdam as a studio where the public was welcome to follow the work process, and lived and worked for a month as an artist-in-residence at the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen. The nature of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, where Karin Bos regularly resides, resonates in her fairytale-like landscapes in which something alienating is always going on. The questions raised by the work do not need to be answered, it allows the viewer the space for its own interpretation that may be changeable. Her open mind makes us watch with her and look at our daily environment from a different perspective, sometimes even literally; from a hot air balloon.
In 2026 she presents her latest art project with a solo show titled Life-Line at Dat Bolwerck in Zutphen. A show about loss. For this project the artist went back to the source and followed the water of her childhood at the IJsselmeer lake. The result is a poetical show in which loss, grief, hope, resilience and water meet in an installation combined with new paintings and works on paper. The art project Life-Line is supported by VandenEnde Foundation and the Mondriaan Fund.
