This catalog about the work of the Amsterdam based visual artist Karin Bos (1966) was released as a result of her solo exhibition “Los ojos del extranjero – expedición naturaleza” (“The eyes of the stranger – expedition nature”) at the contemporary art museum CAB in Burgos, Spain in 2020.
The exhibition contains paintings, work on paper, installation and video. It is an overview of work inspired by her many travels and artist-in-residency projects in Spain that she has realized over the years, combined with Dutch and Icelandic landscapes.
The relationship between man and nature is a central subject of her paintings, which show both fairytale-like landscapes as well as disturbing images. With carefully chosen colors and light, a filmic and charged image is created of a world full of stories in which nothing is what seems and where a cheerful holiday scene can just as well be the place of a terrible crime.
In addition to the exhibition works, the 144-page publication provides a good overview of her work in recent years and an essay written by Javier Del Campo, director of museum CAB. The catalog is trilingual; Spanish, Dutch and English.

Deze catalogus over het werk van de Amsterdamse beeldend kunstenaar Karin Bos (1966) is uitgebracht naar aanleiding van haar solotentoonstelling ‘Los ojos del extranjero – expedición naturaleza’ (‘De ogen van de vreemdeling – expeditie natuur’) in het museum voor hedendaagse kunst CAB in het Spaanse Burgos in 2020.
De expositie bevat schilderijen, werk op papier, installatie en video. Het betreft een overzicht van werk geïnspireerd door haar vele reizen en artist-in-residency projecten in Spanje die ze door de jaren heen heeft gerealiseerd, gecombineerd met Hollandse en IJslandse landschappen.
De relatie tussen mens en natuur staat centraal in haar schilderijen, die zowel sprookjesachtige landschappen als verontrustende beelden laten zien. Met zorgvuldig gekozen kleuren en lichtval ontstaat een filmisch en geladen beeld van een wereld vol verhalen waarin niets is wat lijkt en waar een vrolijk vakantietafereel evengoed de plek van een verschrikkelijke misdaad kan zijn.
Naast de tentoonstellingswerken biedt de 144 pagina’s tellende publicatie een goed overzicht van haar werk van de afgelopen jaren en een essay geschreven door Javier Del Campo, directeur van museum CAB. De catalogus is drietalig; Spaans, Nederlands en Engels.
